On November 29, 2018, TEI filed comments with the Australian Treasury regarding The Treasury’s Discussion Paper on the digital economy and Australia’s corporate tax system. TEI’s comments emphasized the need for an international consensus for taxing the “digital economy” and the significant risk of double taxation should Australia or other countries develop unilateral approaches to taxing digital companies or digital transactions, among other things. TEI’s comments were prepared under the aegis of the Institute’s Asia and European Tax Committees. Benjamin Shreck, TEI Tax Counsel, coordinated the preparation of TEI’s submission.
