President’s Note (March 15 2021)

Hello everyone! TEI has had an exciting and busy start to 2021, and we wanted to share some of our plans and initatives with our members.

Registration is open for our 71st Midyear Conference, taking place March 22-25, which provides more than 50 hours of content focusing on U.S. federal, international, and state tax, as well as Canadian tax and COVID-19-related measures. We are also excited to announce that our third annual Tax Technology Seminar will take place virtually from April 27-29. This special event has been designed by TEI members to address the pressing need for an automated tax function that operates seamlessly, whether remote or in-person. TEI’s members and staff are also hard at work developing the program content for our Federal Tax Fundamentals Series and Financial Reporting Series, which will be offered virtually in May and June, respectively.

Be on the lookout for an invitation to participate in two TEI surveys. Following the Midyear Conference, we will be asking all of our members what they will be seeking for the remainder of 2021, as the prospect of in-person meetings becomes a possibility. We will also be asking companies to participate in TEI’s Corporate Tax Department Survey. Last completed in 2012, this year’s survey will provide comparison and trend data, and assess new and evolving areas important to corporate tax departments, such as technology and remote work alternatives. And finally, the workstreams continue their efforts on TEI’s strategic plan, Choosing a Path Forward, and will deliver those reports at the end of my term.

We look forward to meeting the challenges and opportunities of 2021 together.

Jim Kennedy, TEI International President
