The State and Local Tax Committee is responsible for TEI’s educational and advocacy efforts for U.S. state and local tax issues. 

The committee monitors state and local tax developments throughout the country, files amicus briefs with state and federal courts on impending state and local tax issues, and files comment letters addressing various legislative and administrative proposals. 

The U.S. International Tax Committee works on educational and advocacy efforts regarding the U.S. taxation of international business operations.

The Tax Reform Task Force was formed in 2006 to review the recommendations in the Report of the President’s Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform and develop TEI’s related advocacy strategy. The Task Force plays a continuing role with respect to the reforms enacted in Public Law 115-97, informally known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and the administrative guidance promulgated thereunder. The Task Force is responsible for developing and coordinating TEI’s advocacy efforts in this area in consultation with the Institute’s standing committees.

The Financial Reporting Committee sets TEI’s advocacy agenda for tax-related financial reporting matters. The committee monitors developments and interacts with the FASB and other accounting standards-setting bodies around the world.

The IRS Administrative Affairs Committee is responsible for educational and advocacy efforts concerning procedural and administrative aspects of the U.S. tax system, such as the IRS examination and appeals functions; development of tax forms, schedules and instructions; structure and administration of penalties; and IRS training.
